Deploying with Middleman is pretty easy but if you want to deploy to a subfolder you can run into trouble. In this tutorial I'm going to show you how to do that without any trouble.

You can think of data files in static site generators similar to databases. They are files that are going to hold some sort of structured data that you can display on your site. In this episode first we are going to do a basic example of data files, and after that we are going to make more complex example to make a list of movies.

In Middleman they are called "Custom Article Collections" and they can be any kind of taxonomy you want. Also they are a bit limited and not as advanced like in WordPress or Drupal. But if you combine them with tags you should be OK.

As I wasn't able to do anything for this tutorial by following official Middleman documentation, so I had to find some round about ways to learn how to do what I wanted. In this tutorial I'm going to walk you through that process.

We are going to learn how to display list of all tags for our blog, and also how to display tags for every post we have.

Middleman static site generator has some great documentation, but some of it is not that good. Tags are not explained very well, especially if you have multiple Middleman blogs.

In this episode we are going to be using [Middleman Dragonfly Thumbnailer](https://github.com/scarypine/middleman-dragonfly_thumbnailer) to make big images we've displayed in [the previous episode](http://watch-learn.com/video-tutorials/building-sites-with-middleman-part-7-displaying-front-matter-and-making-article-layouts/) a bit smaller. And not just smaller on our screens, but we are going to make actual smaller version of the image files. Also we are going to crop them, and make them maintain aspect ratios, and other cool stuff like that.

**Note:** you have to have ImageMagick installed on your local machine for this to work.
