We already did a [similar episode to this](https://watch-learn.com/dev-tools/automatic-deployments-shared-hosting) but instead of using github, we were using Git module that comes with cPanel. That approach has some problems, at least the viewers of the channel have reported some problems. So now instead of using Git module from cPanel we are going to be using Github and Github Actions to deploy our site to staging and production servers. Github Actions makes this so easy, as you will see in the video.

In this episode we are going to learn how to deploy our site to shared hosting using Github Actions.

Deploy To Shared Hosting With Github Actions

We are going to setup our process so that we have two sites, one is going to be used for production and another for staging. And then using Git we are going to configure post receive hook for our repository so that when master branch is pushed our files end up on Production site, and when the staging branch is pushed the files are going to end up on Staging site. As you will see this is a nice way to setup automatic deployments if you only have access to a shared hosting.

I don't like Git visual tools very much. They always seemed too slow for me and somehow abstracted. So in this episode I wan't to present to you a new visual Git client from the creators of Sublime Text. I kind of like this tool because it's very similar to working with Git in the console, and it's very, very fast.

Please note that I keep referring to the shortcut to command palette in this video as `command+shift+p` but it's actually just `command+p`

I have gotten quite a few questions about deploying your October CMS site to a live server. It is pretty simple but as you will see in this video there are a few gotchas. And I also wanted to share my workflow which involves .env variables and Git FTP. Because I think, doing it with just simple FTP app is kind of icky. As developers we should be using version control tools when ever possible, even if we don't have full Git infrastructure in our workflow.

As you will see deploying Gatsby to GitHub pages would be extremely easy if I didn't make some errors in the [previous episode](http://watch-learn.com/video-tutorials/gatsby-wordpress-displaying-images). Luckily those errors are pretty easy to fix. So we will be doing that in this episode.

In this final episode of Gatsby and WordPress tutorial series we are going to deploy our site and fix some errors that I made in previous episode.

Deploying and Fixing Errors

If you are any kind of developer that works on the internet you would need to transfer your local files to the remote server. Of course you probably already know about FTP, and that is one way you can transfer files. But that is not a secure way.

If you want to transfer your files securely to the remote server you have a couple of options, you could use SSH and SCP to do that via the command line. If you like graphical interfaces you can use any of the hundreds file transfer programs and just use SFTP option provided with most of them.

And lastly I'm going to show you how to push changes to your project using Git FTP tool, so that you can speed up your developer workflow.
