So controllers are basically buckets in which you can put the business logic for your theme in, and then have access to those functions inside your templates. We want to do this so that our templates stay clean and not polluted with PHP code. If you are using Sage for your WordPress theme developemt I would suggest using controllers whenever possible. It will make your templates so much cleaner.

In this episode of Sage is Awesome we are going to take a look at how Controllers can be used to make our WordPress theme development cleaner.

In the [last episode](http://watch-learn.com/video-tutorials/making-websites-october-cms-part-23-extending-user-plugin) we added two new fields to User plugin for October CMS. Now our users can add their biography and links to facebook page to their profile. But only on the backend, which actually means they can't add it because our users can't access the backend. So that in turn means we have a problem on our hands.

The solution to this problem is acctually easy, add those fields to the frontend and figure out a way to save them. Because as you will see, in this episode we are going to have to extend the User model also, so that we can save those fields. But since this is October CMS this should not be difficult.
